有时最好的学习方法是教别人。训练自己检查别人的拼写错误，甚至书中的拼写错误（确实有时候会发生）。可以先从编辑wikiHow文章开始，点击“编辑”，来查看他人的作品。也可以注册一个账户，之后就可以成为wikiHow社区成员了。

注意“杂货店省略号”。这东西得名于杂货店商品上出现的拼写错误。不幸的是，这种错误越来越泛滥了。记住含"s"的撇号表示所有格(或省略拼写，比如: "it is" 成为 "it's")。所有格: "The banana's skin turned brown." 省略拼写: "The banana's too mushy." 不需要在正常复数词上用撇号，例如: "Special on banana's: 49 cents."是错的。

不要怕多翻词典。英语词由各种语言中来。最古老的词从盎格鲁（北日耳曼）、撒克逊（南日耳曼）、诺曼或波尔多的法国移民者来。很多其他词汇从拉丁语或希腊语词根中来。一个好词典可以告诉你词源，学会这些词源，就很辨认记住词的形式了。
如果多熟悉一下其他语言的拼写和词源，就能更熟悉英语的拼写了。然后可以使用其他语言的构词技巧。比如法语中"sh" 音拼成 "ch"，因此出现了 "cliche" 、 "chic"这样的词。
把词中的字母抽出来，比如把“arithmetic”的字母抽出来造个句： “A rat in the house might eat the ice cream."
检查自己的作品，我们经常在写作的时候会把同音词弄错，比如'reef' 用成 'wreath' ，而且还意识不到错误。之后你发现的时候可能还会问自己 "我是怎么拼错的呢？"
检查复合词，如果不看词典，真的不知道 "stomachache," "stomach-ache," "stomach ache" 哪个是正确拼写。最近连字符号的用法有了很大改变，所以最好用近期的词典，用符合你语言的词典（英式或美式）。
阅读书本、报纸、目录、广告牌标志、海报来帮你学习拼写。如果发现不认识的词，写下来，即使写在餐巾纸上也可以。回家的时候查查字典。参考的越多，读的越多，拼写学的越好。
